We began in the Autumn of 1904 - over 100 years ago - and presented our first show at the Theatre Royal, Roper Street, Whitehaven in March 1905
We have been entertaining the people of Whitehaven ever since - apart from enforced breaks for two World Wars!!
We have presented shows, some well known, some not so well known, ranging from "The Rose of Araby" - one of our smash hits of the 1920's to "The Wizard of Oz" - one of our great successes of the 1990's. From Gilbert and Sullivan to Strauss, Offenbach to Lionel Bart. We have presented murder mysteries, comedies, American musicals like "Oklahoma" and musicals based on the hard life and times of West Cumbria as it was in the early part of the century - "The Hired Man" based on Melvyn Bragg's novel.
So come with us on a journey through the shows, photographs, and history of the Whitehaven and District Amateur Operatic Society over the last 100 years - our past - our present - and what we would like to do in our next 100 years!!
